'The
Cornerstone'
'The Cornerstone' based in Stafford is our
head office and the cornerstone of our organisation. It stands on
the junction of two roads, Common Road which travels along by Stafford
Common where cattle graze and local residents walk their dogs; and
St. Albans Road which took it's name from the original Church building
that was built in 1895 as a mission church to service the increasing
population living in the area of the common.
The office, which is the hub of activities
has been arranged to keep the character of the building but with
modern technology to facilitate the running of a busy federation.
The main body of the church has become the meeting room where sub-committee
meetings and some events take place. The altar area has been retained
and is used to display beautiful pieces of members work.
The
County Federation organises many events either educational, craft,
or sport and leisure at widespread County venues which are open
to members (and often non-members) to attend.
The office is open Monday to Thursday 9.30am-4.00pm
and the staff are always willing to give help and advice to members
and non-members.
Our 'Special events' comittee organises lunches,
dinners and other events at prestigious venues with well known celebrity
speakers are very popular events for members to attend.
The WI is well known for campaigning on local
and national issues and will lobby the Government or the relevant
departments on any matters the members feel very strongly about.
A visit is made each year to the A.G.M. organised
by the national federation where resolutions are discussed and voted
upon.
